Tips for Recording with a Multi-Card PARIS

Some facts about a multi-card PARIS system:

• You must always have one SubMix assigned to "Card" for each EDS-1000 in the system.

• Each EDS-1000 card is capable of having its own hardware interface and its own Control 16.

• You can only record on an EDS-1000 card that has an audio interface attached.

• You cannot patch from an audio interface connected to one EDS-1000 card to a different EDS-1000 card in the Patch Bay.

The most common multi-card PARIS system is one with two EDS-1000 cards, one Control 16 and one audio interface. With only one audio interface connected, you will need to juggle the playback status and card selection in the Master Mixer when you need to record beyond sixteen tracks, and still want to have all tracks playing back live from disk.

Launching PARIS with two EDS-1000 cards installed automatically creates two SubMixes, one for each card. The Control 16 is assigned to SubMix 1 by default. The default PARIS Project is already set up to record on Card A.

Use these steps when recording with a multi-card system:

1. Create your initial tracks of audio in SubMix 1 using the tools in the Mixer Window and Editor Window, just as you would with a single card system.

2. After recording the initial tracks in SubMix 1, Card A, create a new SubMix in the Master Mixer Window. (This creates SubMix 3, assigned to Card A by default. Its default playback status is set to Virtual).

3. Set SubMix 3 to play from Card. (SubMix 1 is now set to Virtual).

4. Use the Select EDS-1000 pop-up to set SubMix 1 to play from Card B.

5. Change the SubMix 1 playback status from Virtual to Card. SubMix 1 will now play back from the second EDS-1000 card, freeing up the audio hardware attached to the first card.

6. Use the Select EDS-1000 pop-up to set SubMix 2 to play from Card A.

7. Change the SubMix 2 playback status from Virtual to Card. You now have the audio interface connected to a new set of empty tracks for recording.

8. Set your Control 16 to control SubMix 2. (Hold the SubMix button and press the number 2 on the keypad of the Control 16).

9. Record your new audio tracks.

You can create additional SubMixes as your needs require (up to eight in a Project). You will need to update these additional SubMixes in the same manner used with a single card system.
